Final diploma project

During the final year of my Master’s degree in Transcultural Design, at l’Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique (India Studio), as part of my final diploma project, I worked on the challenges which arise from migration, specifically on how to preserve the migrants’ identity and how to achieve acceptance by the local communities.

I focussed on the specific situation of the north-eastern Indian migrants settling in the country’s mega-cities.

Working from the principle that rejection of difference is due to ignorance and fear, I decided to create a travelling educational space aimed at children in order to raise awareness of the cultures of North-East India. The aim was to create exchange between local children and the newcomers to achieve appreciation of each other’s uniqueness.

This project got selected as the winning project for the Humà Design Challenge pricePeace and Diversity” in Montréal.

To help you understand more about the project, I invite you to watch the following video or indeed, to consult my thesis.

Here are a few research images and sketches linked to the Professor Nomadic Project. My aim was to create an unexpected space using astonishing Indian means of transport, but above all, the project aimed at performing an ambassadorial role for North-East Indian cultures.

The bulk of the work was contained in the research phase concerning primary research (street interviews, field research in Northeast India, meeting associations…) to the secondary research (books, magazines, videos, news reports…), these were brought together in my thesis. This represented a unique training opportunity in the management of work combining data vision, graphic editing and illustration.
